As a Georgetown University Law Center member, how long can I check out a Law Library book? What is the loan period? How many books can I have checked out at a time?

Answer

For Georgetown Law members, the loan period policies of Law Library books may be found on the Borrowing Books & Materials web page. The loan period for books borrowed from local academic libraries would be similar to the check-out period for the Law Library's general books. Georgetown Law faculty may be afforded a longer loan period, but the length may vary and faculty can be assessed fines by the local academic general libraries.

Loan period for books borrowed through Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service will vary, depending on the lending library's policy, and can range from three to six weeks. ILL books can be recalled, shortening the length of the overall loan period. More information may be found on the ILL FAQ page.

At present, Georgetown Law Students may check out as many as 50 Law Library books checked out to their Library Account at any time. To remain current with all of your borrowed library books, Georgetown Law students also check the "How do Georgetown University Law Center members renew Law Library books?" FAQ.

Non-law Georgetown University or Capitol Campus members may check the "I am a non-law Georgetown University member. What library privileges do I have at Capitol Campus?" FAQ to learn which home library they may contact with questions.
