As a Georgetown Law Student, I am not receiving emails sent from Law Library services. What is happening?

I am not receiving emails from the Reference Desk, Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service, Circulation Desk, group study room reservation system, library catalog, etc.

I am not being notified when my requested ILL materials have arrived or are due, when  I make group study room reservations, when I have Law Library materials waiting for me to pick up, or need to be returned, etc.

Answer

The university's Mimecast email security service may divert Law Library notifications into your Georgetown MySpamPortal account. You will not see the intercepted messages in your Georgetown Gmail Spam Folder.

Proactive Steps to Take Now Before Your First Intercepted Law Library Message:

  1. Log in to your Mimecast MySPAMPortal.
  2. Click "Permitted" in the left sidebar.
  3. Click the "Add Permitted" button in the upper right corner.
  4. Copy and paste the following Law Library services' domain names into the text box. Multiple entries must be separated with a space, not a comma.

Domains: mail.libcal.com law-georgetown.libanswers.com exlibrisgroup.com docs.google.com

Follow-Up Steps to Mimecast Spam Digests:

To release Law Library services emails held by Mimecast:

  1. On the Mimecast Spam Digest message, click on "You can also manage held messages in your MySPAMPortal" and login.
  2. Select the held message, click the "Permit" (thumbs up) icon and select "Release Message and Permit Domain."
  3. Steps 1 and 2 may have to be performed annually for some email addresses.

Continual Monitoring of Your MySPAMPortal:

Mimecast Spam Digests (addressed from mimecast.digest@georgetown.edu) are sent as scheduled summaries, not when an individual email is intercepted. Also, the Digest notices do not list every held email. Therefore, when you are expecting a notification from any of the Law Library services, login into your MySPAMPortal regularly to catch held messages from the Circulation Desk (lawcirc@georgetown.edu), Reference Desk (lawlibref@georgetown.edu) or Interlibrary Loan service (law-ill@georgetown.edu).

How You Can Help the Law Library:

Though Georgetown UIS administers Mimecast, if you find held Law Library messages in your MySPAMPortal account, please inform the library service point. Unfortunately, the Law Library is not alerted when messages are not being delivered. If you have technical questions about the Mimecast security service, please check UIS' Mimecast FAQs, or reach out Capitol Campus IST office at caphelp@georgetown.edu.
