Where are the quiet study areas in the Law Library for Georgetown Law students can use?
Does the Law Library offer an open collaborative space? What is the library's noise policy? Where can I use my cell phone in the Law Library?
Answer
The Georgetown Law Library has designated different areas as Quiet Zones, Community Zones, or Collaborative Zones. The Law Library’s Noise Zones page provides an overview of the different zones. These designations include the first come, first served Open Collaborative Area located on the first floor, which includes a mix of tables, standing desks, soft seating, and rolling whiteboards. No advance registration is needed to use the Open Collaborative Area. The rooms adjacent to the open collaborative space are also available as first come, first served.
Georgetown Law students can reserve a study room on the 3rd, 4th, or 5th floors using the Study Space Booking System.
Though the noise zones were developed in response to Georgetown Law students' suggestions, the Law Library staff is unable to enforce the noise zone policies. Doing so would create an unwelcoming learning environment to individuals. We encourage law students to be kind and respectful to those around them. The Law Library does offers free earplugs and wired headphones for 3-hour checkouts.
Capitol Campus study space for non-law Georgetown University students may be found in Capitol Campus 125 E Street (McCourt School of Public Policy), the Law Center McDonough Hall and the Hotung International Law Center Building.
